Frequently asked questions
Is the COBAelite® ESD genuinely certified for electrostatic protection? How does the earthing work?
Yes, the mat is certified to IEC 61340-5-1, the benchmark standard for ESD protection at workstations. Earthing is achieved via a 10 mm male stud built into the mat, to which you connect the earth cable supplied with the grounding kit. For full protection, the operator must wear heel straps or approved ESD footwear.
Where can I use this mat, and are there any important limitations I should know about?
The COBAelite® ESD is designed exclusively for dry indoor environments such as electronics assembly areas, test laboratories or board and circuit soldering stations. It is not suitable for outdoor use or damp environments, and resistance to chemicals and oils is limited: if these agents are present in your workplace, please contact us so we can assess suitability.
Which sizes are available, and can I order a bespoke format?
The standard sizes are 60×90 cm and 90×120 cm, both available in black. If you need different dimensions, made-to-measure formats can be requested: get in touch for details on availability and lead times.
How do I clean and maintain the COBAelite® ESD without damaging its antistatic properties?
For routine cleaning, simply vacuum or shake the mat to remove dust and debris, then wipe the surface with a slightly damp cloth. It is important to avoid harsh solvents, oils and strong chemical cleaners, as the polyurethane offers only limited resistance to these substances and prolonged contact could impair its performance.
Does this mat really reduce fatigue for people standing all day?
The COBAelite® ESD is 14 mm thick and features a bubble surface that encourages micro-movements of the foot, helping to reduce muscle fatigue in the legs and lower back during long periods of standing. Anti-fatigue comfort is rated 4 out of 5, an excellent result combined with top-level wear resistance (5/5) for lasting performance.
